Our nation and our world have fostered a “survival of the fittest” mentality that spawns competition, fear and greed. Events prove this mentality doesn’t work and it is falling apart before our eyes.

We do need something in its place, though, and biology gives us a system for a better way. In the human body and any living organism, cells work in communities of cooperative interaction to assure the health and evolutionary survival of a species. It is time we used our God-given intelligence to stop the evident demise of our civilization and assure our survival through cooperative interaction. How about taking this biological system that has worked successfully since the beginning of time and use it as a blueprint for our mutual prosperity and survival.

I am sure we can think of many ways to set in motion a biological system of cooperative interaction. The one that came to my mind is what I am calling The Give Back Project.

There are three categories of beneficiaries involved:

• Providers of goods and services receive increased business.
• Consumers receive a discounted product, or free product or service.
• Non-profit, not-for-profit or worthy causes receive 10% donations.

By way of example, two other holistic practitioners and I have formed a community cell, using the principle of cooperative interaction. We let consumers and charitable organizations know of our part in The Give Back Project. When one of us receives three new referrals, we give back a free session to the consumer making the referrals and give back a 10% donation of the total proceeds to the consumer’s designated charitable organization.
